Hello, I am in desperate need of finding a place for my dog. I am moving out of state and can not take him with me. He is a 10 month of Basset Hound, male, nuetered, tri color. He is a beautiful dog and I guarantee he will be adopted fast! He has a great personality, potty trained, loves any attention he can get. Is very friendly around kid as I have two small children. Please let me know if you can take him. Thanks!!

Hello! I am very interested in attending your grand opening coming up. I know it is $15 entrance fee, but my question is what will the dress code be? I’m not used to going to these types of things but me and a friend of mine would love to come and support you guys. Please let me know of any specific details I should know about, also if we need to RSVP or just show up. Thank you,
    Elizabeth Strasswyk

Many people find themselves in this situation. If everything possible has already been attempted to find a home for your pet, Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center will care for your pet until we can find a suitable home.

  • SPARC says:

Good Question. You’ll need to purchase a ticket from Best of VC Marketplace or email Talia at Talia@santapaulaarc.org and let her know you would like to attend. You can purchase your ticket on our website through paypal. Just make sure you let Talia know you purchased a ticket online.Thank you for your support. See you Tuesday.

SPARC found a great home for this Basset through a local Basset rescue group.

Please email me with some tips on how you made your blog site look like this , I would be appreciative.

The site is built on the WordPress platform. Larry Holt at Sketchpad Graphic Design graciously donated his time to design and create the website.

There is a stray cat in our neighborhood that is in desperate need of rescue. As far as I can tell he is an adult, unfixed male. When he showed up at our front door about 2 months ago he was emaciated to the point we thought he might die. He was very dirty and his eyes were extremely red rimmed. He also acts as if he might have trouble seeing. He is definitely not feral. After feeding him every night since, he is at a much more healthy weight and we have seen him cleaning himself. He tries to ask for pets but if touched in the wrong spot he gets frightened (or possibly sore ) and takes a swing at you. So we can’t pick him up and bring him in. We only see him at night. He comes and bangs at our screen door for food. We have also been told he hangs around the back yards of people we know on the next street over. Now we are cat loving people and have 3 of our own (indoor only and all fixed) but his constant attention to our outdoor area is making it very uncomfortable for our cats. We totally believe he was once a house cat and would make a very good one again after fixing and medical attention. I wish we were in a position to provide this for him but I have just been laid off and cannot afford to support another cat. Can you help? Can you set a humane trap and get Bill (that’s what we call him) off the street?

  • SPARC says:

The best thing to do is to call the Santa Paula Police Department at 805-933-4287. They will send their Animal Control Office out to trap Bill. If you live within the Santa Paula city limits he will bring him to us. Thank you for being Bill’s guardian angel.

  • Darla Brunner says:

OK, I’ve searched your website for about 15 minutes and cannot find the answer to my very first question: Are you a nonprofit organization? Specifically, the question is, are donations to S.P.A.R.C. tax deductible???

  • Darla Brunner says:

HEY! Answer is YES – see fine print at the bottom of the page! However, please confirm, the exact name of the nonprofit for donations at this time is TLC? Do I make the check payable to TLC and mail it to you? And you will mail me a receipt?

  • SPARC says:

Hi Darla. Thank you SO MUCH for your generous support of SPARC. We have rectified your first question and updated our home page to proudly declare our non-profit status right at the top!. Please make your donation out to Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center and mail or deliver it to us at 705 E. Santa Barbara St., Santa Paula, CA 93060. You can also use the “Donate” function on our home page. In either case we will mail you a receipt for your taxes. If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to call us at (805) 525-8609. Thanks again!

I have 3 cats I need to get rid of right away because i’m moving tomorrow and pets are not allowed in my new apartment. I tried to give them away but nobody wants them now because they are too big and not really friendly. They have not had shots because they don’t like going in the car. I need them gone by tomorrow, can you take them and find them a good home? I also have a dog my cousin might take, but if not can you take her too? She is going to have puppies soon.

  • SPARC says:

Hi Chris. Please give us a call after we open at noon today so we can help you. 805-525-8609.

  • David Nunnery says:

    Dear folks,

Are you currently accepting cats? My wife and I are in the process of relocating from Monroe, Louisiana, where we took in two strays (a mother and son) several months back, and had them spayed, neutered, and vaccinated — the Deep South is crawling with strays; it’s crazy-making.

Anyhow, the place to which we’re moving in SB is much smaller, and we already have three cats and two dogs (all rescues). We’ve tried finding homes through a courtesy listing on Petfinder, but no luck. We can fly them out here, but we have no place to keep them. [All the no-kill shelters within hundreds of miles of Monroe are full, and the local Humane Society has close to a 100% kill rate.]

    Thanks very much,
    David Nunnery

I am writing on behalf of a friend whose two cats I am trying to help. Her address is 716 Yale St., Santa Paula, CA, 93060. My friend is both physically and mentally ill, and her doctor wants her to go into a nursing home. The cats are beautiful: one is a full-blooded Bengal cat of show cat lines, and the other is a tuxedo jellicle with a very mellow personality. Please, would you take these two wonderful cats and find a home for them? They are both very beautiful, and the Bengal cat should be easily adopted because of her extreme beauty. Can you help, please? It would save the lives of these two wonderful cats!

I’m curious why SPARC isn’t listed on Petfinder.com in their Animal Welfare Groups section.

  • Heather Ortiz says:

Hi, I found an abandoned stray kitten in my backyard; I am guessing he is approximately 4 weeks old. We cannot keep him due to our severe allergies. My husband can’t be in the same room as this kitten due to his asthma, and I break out in hives if I hold him to long. Will you guys be able to take in this adorable kitty? He is starting to eat soft food, but prefers the bottle every four hours, but sleeps through the night.

I live in Camarillo and I’ve been feeding a stray female cat who’s been living under a van for several months. She’s friendly and adorable. I’d keep her in a heart beat if my apartment complex would let me have more than two cats. It will break my heart if I have to take her to the pound. The management wants her gone. Would you be willing to take her. She needs a forever home.

  • Val Oliver says:

We just adopted Bruce yesterday who we gave a family name of Ross to. He already feels like a part of our family. He was well taken care of at the shelter and has made himself quite at home. He is lovable and smart and will be with us forever. The girls and young men in the office were great. Thank you SPARC!!

Hello, I am in need of finding my 1 year old pitbull mix a home. She is all the sudden not getting along with our other female pit and we unfortunately need to find her a home. We want to go through a legitmate way to find her a home and trust the people she goes with. We can keep her at our house until a home is found but is there any way you guys can assist in the search? We can take her in whenever so you and potential adopters can see her. She is fixed, up to date with vaccinations, microchipped and absolutely gorgeous. Please contact me asap. thanks.

  • Carla says:

I know that your website states that you only take animals from Santa Paula, and we live in Camarillo, but we have a male dog that we had rescued a while back and we were told that he is 4 years old, neutered, basenji/short-haired fox terrier mix. He is a very sweet dog and listens quite well. However, we live in an apartment and he has some potty issues in the house that I think will be best suited for someone with a yard. He does good in the house otherwise and loves to be with people and strives for attention. His potty issues usually seem to be when we are gone. I wish we could keep him, but my husband is sick and is about to have a kidney transplant and we just cannot keep him any longer. It is imperative that we keep the house as sterile as possible. I have contacted the Humane Society over the last month and, unfortunately, they keep telling us that they just don’t have the space for him. I DO NOT want to take him to Camarillo, as I know that he will make someone a GREAT pet and I do not want him to suffer the fate of being put down. But the truth is, if I can’t find somewhere for him to go soon, I will have to take him out to Camarillo. Can you please help me by taking him ASAP?? Thank you!

  • Carla says:

Oops…I’m sorry, I don’t live in Camarillo…I live in East Ventura. I guess I kept thinking about the pound in Camarillo.

  • Julie Boyer says:

    Hi,

I have two wonderful dogs in need of a new and loving home. Bear is a chesapeake bay retreiver who is always retrieving for you and looking out for you as long as he gets to jump in his pool when he wants to. Very well trained but would be good for a young man that can walk him often as he is very strong. Angel is our aussie in need of love, individual attention and lots of running:) and or walking often, often ,often. Both of these dogs are exceptional and beautiful and would only be approved to the right home. If anyone is interested in a high energy loving companion one of these pets might just be what you need. I was wondering if SPARC might be able to take them as I cannot care for them anymore. I have had them since they were puppies and they are about seven now. Thank You for your time. Hopeful for new homes. Julie

I have been looking for my long lost dog and have stoped in your shelter about once a week for the last month. I was wondering when your found pets section will be working? Do you have another website where you post them.

Hello, I have a lab/ pit mix who is as sweet as can be! Her name is Zoe.
I rescued her at about 6 weeks old from a bad area in Oxnard. She is neutered and has
gotten her shots. Unfortunately, I am a full time student and have two jobs. I can’t give her
the attention she deserves! I love her and have tired everything to get her a good home
with a family member or friend. Everyone can see that she is a great loving, playful, affectionate companion.
She thinks she is a lap dog. I don’t want to take her to the Camarillo shelter by ALL means.
I live in East Ventura with her now. She listens to commands and has a funny personality.
Please let me know if you can re-home my girl Zoe?

    Thank you!
