The SPARC website is still under construction. We will continue to add features and information as we approach the opening date of the Animal Rescue Center, in Spring 2012. If you’re looking for more information that is not currently available on the website, please fill out our contact form and a SPARC representative will get back to you shortly. Thanks for visiting!
Who or what is S.P.A.R.C.?
S.P.A.R.C. is a coalition of staff, volunteers, city leaders, the animal control officer, and police and county animal advocates combining their time and resources to create the first and only “no-kill animal shelter” in Ventura County. S.P.A.R.C. is a place where the stray and abandoned dogs and cats of Santa Paula can be brought for humane care…without risk of being killed due to lack of space.
Where is S.P.A.R.C.?
We are located at the corner of Santa Barbara and 7th Street next to the new bike/walking path. A small pet supply store operated by the Ventura Pet Barn will share the corner for the convenience of our neighbors.
Quick Facts:
- No animal will be housed outdoors overnight.
- Outdoor exercise periods will be supervised by an attendant.
- The exercise yard will have solid or double fencing so neighborhood children and pets will not come into contact with shelter animals.
- The kennel rooms have solid block walls and additional sound baffling material will be added to minimize noise. Sound checks have already been conducted and noise levels will be strictly monitored.
- We expect an average population of about 20 dogs and 10 cats.
- The exterior of the building and rear yard will be refurbished.
- Members of the public will be invited to help socialize shelter animals, interact with them, and even take them for walks.
- Low cost vaccination and spay/neuter clinics, as well as dog training classes, will all be offered through the center.
